Never equate open source to cheap. ERPNext is open source and access to the software is free but all ERP projects are 30% software 70% implementation.
Here are some errors that consultants and even clients commit that endanger the success of the entire ERP implementation in Nigeria:
Not getting full buy-in from the company leadership. Anything short of 100% commitment from the organization leaders and middle-level managers will result in definite failure of the project.
Always going for the cheapest vendor. Information technology costs money and there are many 'cowboys'. Ask for references and make sure you verify.
Setting unrealistic expectations. Some business leaders believe the ERP application will solve all their process issues. For a successful implementation, your processes must work on paper first.
Organization readiness.
Are your staff computer savvy?
Do you have existing process and procedures on paper?
Someone with a good understanding of the business from end to end that will be the ERP champion/ project manager.
Stable Internet access
Customization. I usually advise my clients to use ERPNext straight out of the box for 6 months first. Having a software that digitizes your operations by 60% is OK. Even Fortune 500 companies use multiple applications to solve different issues. There is no silver bullet.
Ineffective change management; adopting a new ERP system hangs on how well the organization embraces it quickly.
Lack of support and training. You might have to leave a support personnel on site for a few weeks/months after the handover phase of the project to help transition users properly.
